General Locations

Locations on the wiki reflect the rooms on the BoxStation-map, but the same jobs, and therefore also the same rooms mostly exist on other station maps as well. Here's a list of the rooms/locations:

BoxStation

BoxStation is widely regarded as the "official" map of SS13, though the situation is quickly changing as new maps are becoming more popular. It may be confusing at first, but it is actually neatly organized, so that every department gets their own wing. The Command Sector is in a centralized location, holding the Bridge, the Gravity Generator and the AI Upload. Other departments extend out into various wings around the command sector.

MetaStation

MetaStation v40A, updated 2015/02/04. (Changelog) (HD Image) (.dmm)

MetaStation is a largely complete map available in the /tg/ codebase as an alternative to the default map. MetaStation was previously run on Badger, and was also the default map on the second official /tg/ server for a time. An older version was running on NoxStation for a while, and a forked variant on /vg/. It has been tested quite extensively and has been generally well received. Due to this testing, it is now largely bug free, and most feedback revolves around gameplay changes and balancing. It is largely maintained and updated by Metacide, but based on and uses the work of many others, such as Allura, who's work provided the bulk of changes in v40A.

Key points to note are that:

  • The map plays best with 30+ players.
  • The only change is the layout - functionality is the same.
  • It feels much more open, attacks in public are harder to get away with.
  • It has a much larger maintenance system, useful for stealthier tactics.
  • There are in-game maps on the walls of the station to help you find your way.
  • The AI and Telecoms are now located on the "MiniSat" near engineering.
  • The escape shuttle is larger, with a cargo hold for valuable gear.
  • All jobs have local maint. access to their nearest public hallway.

Development news regarding MetaStation is often posted in this thread on the /tg/ forums.

Please give any feedback you may have in the same thread, too.

More info can be found on the dedicated MetaStation page.

MiniStation

MiniStation is a mod for low population (5-20 players) servers; with simplified jobs, maps, duties and command structure.

AsteroidStation

AsteroidStation is a Nanotrasen facility embedded into a gigantic asteroid. AsteroidStation is a replacement for MetaStation, which was previously run on Badger, and is now the default map on the second official /tg/ server, <byond server=game.tgstation13.org port=2337>Badger</byond>. It has not been play-tested very extensively, but has been generally well received. Due to this lack of play-testing, there some bugs, and gameplay changes and balancing still need to be made.

Key points to note are that:

  • The map plays best with 30+ players.
  • The only change is the layout - functionality is the same.
  • It feels much bigger and more open, attacks in public are harder to get away with.
  • It has a much larger maintenance system, useful for stealthier tactics.
  • The escape shuttle is larger, with a cargo hold for valuable gear.
  • All jobs have local maint. access to their nearest public hallway.
  • Atmos and Power have local "checkpoints" to make it harder to sabotage.
